About me,
This spring I will complete the requirements for
a BA in History and Spanish. As the first to graduate from a family of five
boys I feel a sense of gratitude for being able to complete two Bachelors of
Arts degrees at Humboldt State University. Education has always played an
important role in my life. I strongly believe that education opens
opportunities for people who would otherwise not have them. As a young four
year old my parents brought me to the United States of American and I can truly
say that this move has been a major blessing for me. My new country has given
me opportunities that perhaps I would not have had in my former country due to
the economic constrains of that country. I feel that my graduation and
postgraduate goals will serve as an opportunity for me to help those who need
that extra motivation to continue their own educational goals. As a future
educator I hope that I can motive students as myself through their educational
journey.
It is my hope that upon completing the Credential Program at Humboldt State University I will be able to teach both History and Spanish. I believe that History is an important part of a student’s educational journey. It is important to know our roots not only as individuals but as a nation, and a people. We cannot fully understand ourselves without understanding the History that brought us to this point. I would also like to teach Spanish because it is important to be culturally diverse. I believe that I can motive students to seek language as an option for their future educational goals. Furthermore, I believe that my bilingual abilities have allowed me to flourish at Humboldt State University. I participated in the Spanish program and developed language skills that I had not been introduced to. I would like to teach Spanish alongside History in the hope that I can diversify my potential as a secondary education teacher. In addition, as a self-identified Latino I hope that I can motive others like myself to expand their educational opportunities.
